Hi, I’m Britney Rhodes, the founder and designer of Bomb Bags! As you already know sustainability is at the heart of my brand. But beyond upcycling denim and promoting eco-friendly fashion, my passion for journalism plays a huge role in how I approach sustainability.
Journalism is about storytelling, shedding light on important issues, and holding industries accountable—including fashion. The truth is, fast fashion is one of the world’s biggest polluters, with over 92 million tons of textile waste generated each year. But how often do we see these statistics in mainstream conversations? That’s where journalism comes in. As a Journalism and Media Studies student at Arizona State University, I’ve realized that fashion reporting isn’t just about trends; it’s about ethics, environmental impact, and social responsibility.
Through my writing, I want to amplify the conversation around sustainable fashion, highlight designers who are making a difference, and educate consumers on the power of their purchases. Fashion journalism can inspire change—whether it’s through investigative reporting on unethical labor practices or features on brands that are revolutionizing sustainability.
Bomb Bags is my way of taking action. Each bag is a statement against wasteful fashion practices, proving that style and sustainability can coexist. But beyond designing, I want to use my voice as a journalist to advocate for a future where fashion isn’t just about looking good, but also doing good.
So, whether I’m crafting a bag from repurposed denim or crafting a story that challenges the fashion industry, my mission remains the same: to make sustainability stylish and start conversations that matter.
